God’s Throne of Grace Invites Our Worship

Revelation 4:1-11 After the Lord called John to come up to heaven, he saw a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, ‘Come up here,‘ and I looked up and saw that there were no more heavens beyond, no more sea. What I saw was like a throne of jasper, in appearance like emeralds, with a rainbow that shone like precious gems surrounding the throne. All around the throne were twenty-four other thrones and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and gold, with crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings of thunder, and voices, and in front of the throne burned seven torches of fire. The sea of glass glowed like glassy lightning, and in the center of the throne and of the four living creatures there was a fiery red animal, a black animal, a white animal, and a dappled animal. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes, all around and all within. Day and night they never stop singing, ‘Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.’ Every time I read about John’s vision of the throne room, I’m struck by the splendor and majesty of God’s presence. The images of precious gems, radiant thrones, and majestic creatures convey the glory and awe-inspiring nature of God’s throne room. But beyond the grandeur of the scene, John’s vision reminds me that this heavenly throne room is also a place of grace. In a world filled with pain, suffering, and injustice, the image of God seated on a throne of grace invites us to worship and find solace. The 24 elders dressed in white and gold symbolize the people of God, covered in the righteousness of Christ and crowned with the gold of His love. They are seated around the throne, participating in the praise and worship of our glorious God. As we gaze upon the throne of God, we’re reminded that we have a role to play in this grand scene. We are called to join the 24 elders in worship, to sing with the four living creatures, and to participate in the praise of our majestic God. In Philippians 2:12-18, Paul reminds us that we are God’s co-laborers, working together with Him to accomplish His will. We are not mere spectators in the heavenly throne room; we are active participants, empowered by the Holy Spirit to join in the praise and worship of our glorious God. As we do so, we’re reminded that our worship is not just a reaction to God’s grandeur, but also a response to His incredible gift of grace. What is one area in your life where you need to respond to God’s gift of grace, and how will you join in the worship of our glorious God today?Father, help us to gaze upon the throne of Your grace and majesty, and respond to the gift of salvation that You have given us. Empower us to join the 24 elders and the four living creatures in worship, and to participate in the praise of our glorious God. Today, we declare that we are Your beloved children, covered in the righteousness of Christ and crowned with the gold of Your love.
